We Are The CTO


The CTO is a collective of entertainment professionals committed to diversity in storytelling. Founding members Levar Burton, Wayne Brady, Tracie Thoms and Ahmed Best decided to give a voice to an often overlooked and underserviced audience. The CTO goal is to create content with people who look like the world.

CTO consists of Directors, Writers, Actor, Producers, Cinematographers, and everything in between. Our content ranges from  features, scripted/unscripted TV, commercials, web series, and beyond. The wealth of experience and knowledge allow us to tailor make our content for any and all platforms.

Ahmed Best is a graduate of the the American Film Institute. Starred in the Broadway musical Stomp NY national and international companies.  Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars Episode One, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  ANNIE award winner Best Actor in a Animateed Series for Robot Chicken.  Executive Producer of The DL Chronicles (2008 GLAAD award winner for Best Anthology series) web series Bandwagon, This Can’t Be My Life, and the Sci-fi comedy The Nebula.

AHMED BEST Writer/Director/Producer/Actor

Tracie Thoms has had wide-ranging success in film, television and theatre, her credits include Sony’s film adaptation of the Broadway musical Rent, films including Safe House, Meeting Evil, Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse: Death Proof, The Devil Wears Prada, and recently Christopher Nolan’s hit film, Looper.  Thoms has been a series regular on TV series such as CBS’s Cold Case, Fox’s Wonderfalls, UPN’s As If, has guest starred on numerous series such as The Shield, Harry’s Law, Human Target, and most recently, Person of Interest, Suits, The Good Wife and Emily Owens, MD.

TRACIE THOMS Actor/Writer/Producer

J Lee is a graduate of Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music with a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance and Theatre and Drama.

Since beginning his professional career in Los Angeles, he has worked for Seth MacFarlane’s household-hit sitcom FAMILY GUY, and has done voice-over work for Family Guy and AMERICAN DAD!  He is a Blacklist writer (The Curse Of Medusa ’09 Blacklist), has written for THE CLEVELAND SHOW, and has had multiple film and television deals.


J LEE Writer/Director

Lynn Wactor attended the acclaimed performing arts high school and later the University of MD. College Park.  After 8 years as a cast member of the International touring hit musical STOMP, she relocated to Los Angeles, CA.

Her credits include TV series Criminal Minds, ER, The New Normal, The DL Chronicles, the short film Talent, The Santa Monica Playhouse production of UGLy,  The Collective Theater’s Chicago production of Katouri Hall’s Hoodoo Love, the award nominated web-series This Can’t Be My Life, the award winning web-series Bandwagon, which garnered her a Best Break Out Performance award at the 2011 Indie Soap Awards, and the Indie Intertube Awards. She was most recently awarded Best Guest Appearance at the LA Webfest. 

LYNN WACTOR Actor/Writer

Jason E. Kelley “JK” is a graduate from Radford University with a degree in Business Management and is a member of the Actors Conservatory program at The Second City for Improv Sketch Comedy. He is the co-founder of the Tuskegee Xperiment, one of LA’s premiere African-American improv troupes.  His credits include True Blood, Bones, Criminal Minds, VicTORIous, The Good Guys, Parks & Recreation, Cold Case, Heroes and Chuck. 

Kelley has produced and co-written several web shorts and series’ that have gone on to win LA Film Festival and NBC Short Cuts Festival awards. He currently has a feature project in development, Long Ball, a comedy co-written by JK about a fringe sport in the world of golf.

JASON E. KELLEY Actor/Writer/Director

Adrienne Wilkinson credits include Xena’s daughter Livia/Eve from the hit series Xena: Warrior Princess, series Charmed, Days of Our Lives, ER, and Angel, as well as series regular roles on Venice, Goodnight Burbank, As If, most recently in the pilot Star Trek Renegades and films Raze, Alpha Force, The American Failure and Reflections.

She has produced several independent films and has voiced more than 50 lead characters in top animation projects and high profile video games including Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed franchise.  She is also the creator of #FromTheMOB – a celebrity interview webseries.
